Tottenham secured progression into the last eight of the Carabao Cup after overcoming Chelsea via a penalty shootout on Tuesday night.

The Blues got their just reward for a dominant first-half, with their early superiority capped by Timo Werner’s fantastic strike – his first goal for the club.

The Lilywhites were much-improved after the break, however, taking a much more enterprising approach and asking plenty of questions of the visitors’ defence. Erik Lamela eventually pulled the hosts’ level from close range with ten minutes remaining, setting up a penalty shootout.

A perfect streak of spot-kicks was then broken on the tenth attempt by Mason Mount as his effort rebounded off the post and wide, sending Spurs through.
